Stefanie Sun (Ubielife)

I didn’t have any business experience from my home country because I was still a student when I first came to Halifax. From my experience, developing a Social Network is the most important part of the business culture here.

Trust is fundamental for everything including doing business. It is necessary for us as immigrants to establish our own social network system even if it is hard. Connecting with local organizations such as ISANS will be a great start for you to build your network.

For a strong foundation, I also recommend:

  • Do research before you start
  • Make a business plan
  • Register your business
  • Connect with local service providers for start-up: such as ISANS
  • Expand your social network
  • Market and promote your business
